Choose inside mount for a sleek, built-in look that preserves window trim and is ideal for layering with curtains.Opt for outside mount when there isn't enough window depth, to hide imperfections, to cover the entire window for better light control and privacy, or to make a window appear larger.
Step 1: Measure the WIDTHMeasure the width at the top, middle, and bottom of the window recess.Record the smallest of the three measurements.Do not make any deductions. We will make the necessary small deductions to ensure your blinds operate smoothly.Step 2: Measure the HEIGHTMeasure the height from the top of the recess to the sill at the left, middle, and right.Record the longest of the three measurements. For Blinds that sit within the recess (e.g., most blinds), provide the exact height. For Blinds that hang below the recess (e.g., some Roman Shades), confirm the mounting point.Pro Tip: Check your window for square. If the measurements vary significantly (more than 5 mm"), an outside mount might be a better option.
Step 1: Determine the WIDTHThe width of the blind should be at least 50-75 mm wider than the window opening on each side (so 100-150 mm total wider) to ensure full coverage and prevent light gaps.Measure the exact width you want the blind to be.Step 2: Determine the HEIGHTThe height of the blind should extend at least 37.5-50 inches above the window opening and to your desired length below (just below the sill, to the sill, or all the way to the floor).Measure from your chosen top point to your chosen bottom point.Pro Tip: For a modern look, many customers mount their blinds high and wide, from the top of the wall molding to the floor, to make the window appear larger.
For inside mount blinds, we will make your blinds slightly narrower than the width you order so that they fit properly and operate smoothly. This results in a slight "gap" between the edge of the shade and the window opening. On many products, the gap is between 5mm and 12mm on each side. On roller shades, solar shades, sheer shades and zebra dual shades, the gap is usually between 8mm and 16mm on each side since the fabric portion of the shade is narrower than the top of the shade. Please do not order your shade wider than your window opening to try to eliminate the gap, as the blind may not operate correctly or may not fit in your window at all.
